2011

some people bug me.

here i was, thinking i had filtered this list of friends! i was even really picky!

uugghh.

I hate complaining. But that situation definitely deserved at least a little venting. I'm not even sure why it bothers me so much. Oh yeah, maybe because I really rely on integrity. and loyalty. and honesty. especially in people who call themselves my friends.

oh well, i guess.

Tonight, Devin and I have plans to go to every single party we were invited to! Which is a lot! It's gonna be one busy night! But definitey a fun one -- couldn't think of a better way to celebrate a new year than with the people I love the very most!

so far, there are only 3 official parties we will be attending, but my guesses are that this list will grow quickly.

1st: my parents. No, they aren't staying up until midnight, but they are playing lots of fun games!

2nd: amanda and jasons. they call themselves the party poopers, but i disagree! it's always a party at the wagstaff house! food and games, and definitely some NERTS!

3rd: kaylee and ryan's. more food and games. and friends. i have yet to be to a party hosted by the case's, but i am sure it will be a riot!

i got a little ahead of myself this year, and already talked about my goals...

which are clearly already being accomplished, because of how productive i've been by posting them weeks ago!

anyway... hope everyone's new year celebration is as fun as ours will be!

katie keeps her promises

I promised I would post these.... so here they are!:

here are the hair pieces i have made for myself! I'm sad because I forgot to take pictures of the one I made for my cousins before I gave them to them -- they were so cute though! Trust me.

I made all of these with stuff I found lying around my house. Scrap lace, ribbon, some beads... it was so, so easy! I love them. I wear them all the time.

ALSO... I was wrapping my present for Valeri's Bridal Shower, and decided to just make my own card instead of finding one for her... and got carried away and made a few others:

pretty cute, huh? I'm getting pretty crafty, guys -- look out! haha

Well, I'm off to the Shower, and then to spend the evening with Devin, just like every other night! :) I absolutely LOVE it. He's the best.

good man.

Dad's surgery went well! They had to poke him a bunch of times to get his IV in... and it took 2 people, but all is well. He was getting some fancy-named things done to his foot, the same things he had done to the other foot 6 weeks ago. I think one thing was called something like planter-facia... and another was called heel spurs? and something about a neroma? maybe. And something to do with some kind of band... tendon... something... maybe... anyway. All went well. They put the spurs they took out of his foot in a bag so he could see them, so when I went back into his room after recovery, I picked up the back, looked at it, looked at him and said "that's disgusting. how do you feel?' he just laughed at me hahaha.

We were at the hosptial for about 4 1/2 hours... his surgery only took 45 minutes. So I got to practice my patience a lot today, which was a good thing, I suppose! After he was discharged, he wanted a burger. So we ate at Purple Turtle (best fries and fry sauce ever), picked up his prescriptions at the pharmacy, and headed home.

Then, Kayla and I needed to run some errands, including exchanged my new LA Sportiva Katana's for a smaller size. I guess I'm not used to climbing shoes yet, actually, I know i'm not used to climbing shoes yet, so I got a bigger size, because it was more comfortable. The shoes are supposed to smash your toes beyond recognition, basically. So, I had to get smaller ones... BUT Christian, Devin's buddy who works at Mountain Works, was helping me, and they didn't have the right size! We ordered some, luckily, but they won't be here until next week :(

BUT Dev and I went climbing again tonight, anyway. Lucky for me, Devin has the exact same pair of Katana's, and in the size I ordered (he has small feet haha) so he let me climb in them tonight! Remember my project? Yeah. Nailed it. First try. That's called a red point. I think... and a did a couple other new problems, and I don't remember, but I'm pretty sure I did all of them red point! And some even Flash -- which means you climb it to the top without falling on your very first try ever. It was so much more fun tonight to climb. I was in a better mood, I felt stronger. I did harder problems, I graduated to a V1! that's big news. Devin was doing a lot of really awesome V5 and V6s... hopefully I will catch up to him some day soon! And we ran into some of his friends, who are all great! It's so fun to meet new people, especially Devin's friends, because I already know that if they are a friend of Devin's... they are some gooooood people. And that has definitely been proven!

I'm not even sore tonight, but I'm sure I'll feel it in the morning! I can't wait to get my shoes, and finally get my membership and start climbing all the time! I am pretty sure I will be LIVING at that gym! And I could not be more thrilled!

After climbing, Dev was starving, so we went to my house and I made him some grilled cheese sandwiches, which were tasty. And then he told me (yes. he told me) that we were going to shovel the driveway.

I have a HUGE driveway.

But Devin insisted, because my Dad just had foot surgery. So we braved the cold, icy wind, and shoveled for awhile, and then decided to try the plow. My dad has a big snow plow carriage hooked up to the front of our Arctic Cat 4-wheeler, and Devin wanted to try it out... and we were both really done with freezing our hands! He got maybe two plows until my dad came out... with his casted foot wrapped in a plastic bag so it wouldn't get wet.

I had gone to shovel out mine and my sisters cars, and saw my Dad come out on the 4-wheeler, and Devin with a shovel. I said "did you get demoted?" he said "no. i think he just really, really wanted to do it. He came up to me and said 'here, let me show you... you just gotta...' and took off"

That's my Dad for ya!

The 3 of us got the whole driveway done really fast, and my father, or course did the entire sidewalk on our block... we have a big block! He's so funny. He absolutley loves to plow on that wheeler. It's hilarious.

Devin is such a good guy. He is so generous, and selfless. He is always willing to serve, and help people however he can. He is such a good example to me, and is definitely teaching me how to be a better person. I learn from his every day. He is also teaching me SO much about climbing! I am so excited to learn more from him. He truly is the best. I found a good one!!! Rather... a good one found me!

After we warmed up with some apple cider and the Jazz... it was bed time. So here I am.

And here I go...

anticipation

some exciting events are about to take place. i am anticipating them with an exponential amount of excitement.

dec 30: Val's Bridal Shower. I cannot wait to celebrate the marriage of one of my very best friends of ALL TIME. She is going to be the cutest bride in the whole entire world, and if anybody knows ValPal (who was given that now-famous nickname by ME, by the way), they know that her wedding and reception are going to be AMAZING.

dec 31: new years eve. plenty of options for celebrating here. kaylee and ryan case, my cute married friends, invited dev and i over for some fun and games with a bunch of other people, dev's sister amanda invited us over for some NERTS and other fun stuff, and dane wants to go bowling i think... hopefully devin and i can make it to ALL of them! the only thing I'm sure of is who I'll be kissin' come midnight ;)

jan 1: a NEW YEAR! of course i am excited about that! a fresh, clean start. just what i needed.

jan 3: psh. only the most anticipated season 2 premiere... OF ALL TIME. you can bet i'll be there. what an intense episode this is promising to be!!!

jan 31: my baby brother turns 15. and by "baby brother", i mean, twice my size... naturally.

feb 19: (brace yourselves, this is exciting news) The Provo High Bridal Show!!! ..."katie. why on earth is this even on your agenda" ... "WELL, my friends. Devin, my amazingly talented boyfriend -- and i'm not just saying that because he is my boyfriend, but saying it because i even thought this before i met him!-- is going to be a vendor there! He is a professional photographer, and literally, the best I have ever seen in the valley. And I have done my research! There is literally NOBODY around here that is as professional as Devin. He knows how to work with people, he knows how to run a business, he knows how to get things done. There is literally NOBODY around here that is as affordable as Devin. And his prices even just went up! Try finding a photographer as experienced as Devin for cheaper. Nevermind, don't waste your time. You won't find one. I will just save you the trouble and tell you this now. And there is MOST DEFINITELY nobody around here that has Devin's style. Photographers lately have all started doing this modern thing. And it's all the same. The same lighting, the same editing effects, the same poses and props... it's not unique. Devin's pictures are candid. His whole point is to capture people in their element, rather than this cookie-cutter routine everyone is into lately. His work is so much more realistic, and shows so much more personality. No offense to other local photographers, there is a lot of really solid talent around here, I just honestly don't think there is any comparison for the kind of work that Devin has done. So please, do YOURSELF a huge favor, and look at his website. Tell your friends. Tell your co-workers, and your classmates, and your neighbors, and your mailman. Especially your mailman (haha). And, if you want to go the extra mile, and please a WHOLE LOTTA people, head down to the bridal show on Feb 19, and check out his awesome booth. It's still in the works, but it's looking pretty promising!" seriously though. THE BEST.

fwew. That's a lot. But... now I think you can understand why I'm so excited about all of this.

speaking of devin (shut up. you knew it was coming. KYLEE. STOP ROLLING YOUR EYES AT ME.)... he never ever ever ever ceases to amaze me. I had a pretty horrible night at work. It was busy, there was lots to do, the store was a mess, and it was only me and my boss to handle it all. On top of that, a woman, and like... 1, 367 of her closest friends (who were just waiting for her... not even buying anything...) were in the store until 9:30. that's 30 minutes past closing. 30 minutes of me listening to screaming children run around the store, screwing up everything in their sight... It was NOT my cup of tea, I tell you. In fact, the ONLY good part of my whole shift was seeing Emily! Emily is one of Devin's good friends from high school, and she's such a sweetheart-- can't wait to get to know her better. But her and her new husband, Andrew were there at the very beginning of my shift and only for like 10 minutes! So it didn't help too much :( good to see them anyway though! and hopefully again.. outside of my work, for once! haha

BUT. After ALL THAT... and a complicated closing (meaning Nicola had a hard time with the cash count and registers and paperwork and stuff).... and stress of a messy store... I got to leave. At 10:00 p.m. and you know where I went? RIGHT into Devin's arms. There is no better way to end my night :) My mood completely changed the second he smiled at me, and I don't think I have stopped smiling SINCE! He was so so tired, because he works too hard every day, but he is so sweet to me, and let me come see him anyway :) AND we watched Top Gear. Auh. I cannot even BEGIN to tell you how I feel about this boy. I'm just... there are no words. Literally. The English language doesn't even come close to expressing how I feel.

he makes me

SO

happy.

simple pleasures

Top Off Tuesdays at Gas-n-Go.
Finding a CD in Kayla's new car... a mix made by it's previous owner... a hilarious mix.
Purple nail polish.
Finding my cat drinking out of the sink tap, soaking wet.
Greg Laswell's voice being the only noise in my house.
A text from Devin saying "You're amazing!" for no reason.
This face:

I am easily satisfied.

ALSO... I found a new hobby. It's called picnik. And it's really fun to play with.

Secret's Out-- Also, Merry Christmas.

Kelli is ENGAGED!!!

she's so excited!

I can't believe my sister is getting married! She has been my best friend my whole life and now she's getting married, and I couldn't be happier for her! Sean, her fiance, is a GREAT guy and I am so glad they found each other! I don't know Sean very well, but from what I do know, he is great, and he makes Kelli very happy, which is most important!

They are probably getting married in May, and I am the MAID OF HONOR! I am so excited! Kelli is done with school, and I'm taking the semester off, so we have plenty of time to plan her wedding! I still don't think it has sunk in yet that my sister will be married. Also, her ring is BEAUTIFUL!

First Tracey
Then Valeri
Now Kelli!

I am so excited. All my friends are getting married! I think every time I get one facebook, someone else has announced their engagement!

In other news.... Christmas was so great!

On Christmas Eve, Devin and I went to Nana and Grandpa Ashby's for some soup, and Sean and Chloe were there, then Quinn and Lori's family came (KC's family) and Chris and his family, so we visited with all of them for awhile, then we went to Devin's parents and his siblings exchanged gifts and we all watched Kayla, Kaden and Addison open their presents from Grandma and Grandpa... It was adorable!

Devin had a picture he took of the Salt Lake City temple framed for Amanda, and she absolutely loved it -- He was so excited to give it to her! Devin got a clock for his bike from Sean, and an Apple TV and a box of Moon Pies from his parents. He was so excited. I think more so about the Moon Pies! haha just kidding, but he was so funny when he opened the box. Vicki made me an afghan -- it's gorgeous! Dev had asked me a couple weeks ago for my 3 favorite colors, but I had totally forgotten -- and I guess I also walked in on Vicki making the blanket! I was totally oblivious! I use it all the time thought -- its perfect!

I loved watching the little kids open their presents, they were so excited over every little thing! Kaden was thrilled! He got the Power Miners he has been asking for forever, and he kept saying "I can't believe it!" It was so cute!

After that, we went to my Grandma Houston's for our Christmas Eve party -- which is always interesting. When Devin and I got their, they were doing the little talent show -- Sophie had played the piano, and my Mom told her jokes, my Dad read his own version of "Twas the Night Before Christmas" and we read from the scriptures.

THEN... we did White Elephants. This has been a traditions in my family for as long as I can remember. The gifts are always tacky neighborhood presents, or things found at yard sales -- the big hits this year were a toilet seat cover that Kristin, my aunt got, that had a snowman on it... and was basically a stuffed animal, and there were lots of books! Each year, there is always this hideous porcelain White Elephant, which my mom won, and THE SHIRT.

I had  told warned Devin about the shirt, and I think he thought I was exaggerating... I wasn't. Once he realized how big of a deal it is, he was nervous. He kept telling me he felt like he was going to get it (and I secretly wanted him to hahah). Luckily, he ended up with a calender. I got a puppet book that I gave to Claire, and Jake, my cousin, got the shirt.

The rule is, when you get the shirt at the party on Christmas Eve, you have to wear it the next morning to Grandma's for presents:

Leave it to Jake to go ALL OUT (can't really see the shirt because of the lighting... but it's really that bad.)

After that, Devin and I went back to my house to give each other our presents wait for Kelli and Sean to come home... because we knew the secret! Devin got me a scarf, a 60 minute massage from Remedez, "The Infinite Atonement" which I have been dying to read, and a really cool edition of "To Kill a Mocking Bird". I got him the Thomas S. Monson biography, and I made him a blanket-- big enough for both of us! After that, Devin was tired and went home, and I stayed up watching A Christmas Story with my Mom.

Once Kelli and Sean got here, around 12:30 I think... we all stayed up freaking out until about 1:00a.m., and then Kelli came and slept in my room, and we were up until about 3:30 talking about it, and planning her wedding... haha

CHRISTMAS DAY... We woke up and opened presents around 7:30... It was so much fun! I love my family, and I loved that Sean was able to spend Christmas with us too! I got him the book "Hunger Games" because Kelli had said he wanted to read it, and him and Kelli went in on gifts for all of us, which was so nice of them!

My sister and I -- MARRIED Christmas!
The BIG gifts, besides Kell's sparkly diamond... were Kayla's 2000 FORD FOCUS... yes. She got a car-- FINALLY! And Kyle/The whole family... got a Wii! We've been bowling non-stop. It's so much fun! Also, my Dad got me, Devin, Kyle and him passes to go Night Skiing -- I'm so excited!

After we opened presents, Kayla and Mom went for a ride in Princess, which is her car's name, Dad made breakfast, Kelli and I sat on the couch, and Kyle and Sean set up the Wii. Devin came over right after, and we all headed back to Grandma and Grandpa Houston's for presents.

My extended family always draws names, and this year, Jeremy, my cousin's husband got me. He (his wife, more so) got me a purse! And my grandparents got me a copy of To Kill a Mockingbird, and all of the girls that are great-granddaughters to Grandma Cobbley got some baby blankets and quilts -- that was so special to me. It has been really hard without her around, and Christmas was definitely not the same without her, but when we all saw presents to us from Grandma Cobbley, it made it easier, because we know she'll always be around! The quilt and blankets I got are gorgeous, and I put them right into my Hope Chest. My family had also given Dev a bunch of golf balls, which he enjoyed.

Next, we headed over to Dev's Grandpa Willis and Virginia Rae's house to celebrate with his Mom's side. I met Ren, Shauna, their kids Jude and Abby, Katie Bryce, AJ, Brandon, and Carrie. They are so great! We heard what everyone's been up to for the last year, and then everybody got some gifts from Grandpa Willis and Virginia Rae. It was so much fun to get to spend so much time with Devin's family, and meet them! They were all so much fun, and his cousins are hilarious!
Oh, I love this little girl. Playing with the toys while Grandpa Willis talks.
Kaden totally ignoring me. As always... haha CHICO!
Makayla, Kaden and Addison playing with their toys from Grandpa Willis and Virginia Rae
Chico. This is what he did to rebel when I said "Kade... show me what Iron Man does!" because he got an Iron Man glove and helmet for Christmas... haha he's so cute.
I think Devin has an uncontrollable need to take a picture exactly like this every time he gets his hands on my camera! What a nerd -- love him though :)
We were SO tired! Having fun though-- Kayla is an expert photographer. I asked her to take a picture of Dev and I and she said "mmm... how about I take a couple" she posed us and everything: Cruise Director! haha
Classic. This would be our Christmas Card if we made one, I'm sure of it.
Dev, Monkey and I. I love them.
Baby Addison hanging out with me -- she's SO adorable. I love this little girl!

Then, we went to Dev's apartment, he showed me his Apple TV, and we went and watched Despicable Me with my family before heading to his parent's. Brandon, his older brother, has a new job as a sou chef at the Staag Restaurant in Deer Valley, and has been working a lot of 12-13 hour days, so he wasn't able to get off work for Christmas Eve, and made it down on Christmas around 6:00. We spent some time with him and the dogs, before going back to Devin's apartment to watch The Office on his fancy new TV, and both of us totally zonked. We were pooped! What a day!

Christmas was so much fun, and I'm so glad I got to spend it with so many wonderful people! I love them all!
Merry Christmas. I got a hat.

Friday, December 24, 2010

Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night!

It's 1:00 a.m. and I can't sleep.
I should be, because I have work in the morning...
I'm not even tired. Maybe a little bit, but not enough to fall asleep at all.

I have come up with a couple reasons why:

1. it's this mystery disease that I have that has been messing with me (headaches, lightheaded, no appetite, weird sleeping patterns, etc)
2. I'm at this "can't sleep because reality is better than my dreams" stage... thanks to Dash...

conclusion: both true.

I had an appointment with the Doctor on Monday, and he did all sorts of poking and prodding, and asked at least 486 questions, and then they took my blood (by the way, I still have a super painful bruise from that! And it was horrible! I hate needles). I guess the Doctor called today with the blood test results but I was at work, so that's gonna have to wait. I was in this slump of this mystery disease for a good 2-3 weeks, and then felt really good for about 2 weeks, and then a couple days ago, started feeling weird again. This is so strange. I'm not changing anything, I'm not eating differently, I'm not doing anything different... which is why I call it a mystery. hmph.

Also... I just want to be with Devin. All the time. There are plenty of things I would love to do, I just want to do them all with Devin by my side. I am such a sucker for that boy! I can't get enough. The second he is gone, I miss him, and I look forward to the next time I get to see him. He is the best thing that has happened to me in a long, long time and I am continually grateful for everything he does for me.

Like today, for instance. Even though his day at work wasn't the best, he came and picked me up, and we went climbing. He hadn't been in 9 months... I hadn't been in 5 years... so it was quite a night. Devin, in his own opinion, felt like it really showed that he hadn't been climbing, and wasn't pleased with his problems. I, on the other hand, was super impressed! I loved being able to watch Devin do something that he is really passionate about. I can just see it on his face! He loves to climb, and it's so obvious. I love that about him, and I love that he is letting me, and wants me to a part of it! With my own climbing, I had expected to pick up right where I left off with 5 years ago, bouldering in the test gym of Hansen Mountaineering every day after school my freshman year... too bad it doesn't work that way. I'm starting over. Which definitely frustrated me! I feel bad for Devin, because I wasn't in a very good mood while we were climbing... I was struggling on the v-basic problem, and that bothers me! Devin said that specific route is my new project. I am so determined to beat that next time we go! Ugh... it's going to be a long, hard road back into climbing... but I am so excited. I cannot wait to be dedicated, and climb all the time, and work at it, and get better! My arms are "pumped", which is the climbing lingo (yeah... I'm cool enough to know the climbing lingo...) and my toes hurt! But it's totally worth it. I will feel this pain forever if it means I get better at climbing!

This is my new home.

Regardless of my frustration, I still loved it. Climbing is such a great way to spend time, get stronger, vent, excel... I already love it. Dev says I need to be patient, and not get frustrated so easily, which I will work on. Correction: which I will try to work on, haha :)

After climbing, we went to Jason's Deli and got some dinner -- delicious as always. Whoever invented sprouts, and decided to put them on a sandwich... is genius. I love sprouts.

After that, we went back to my house and Dev played solitaire (our new addiction) while I finished up some Christmas presents, and we listened to the hilarious conversations of my little 14 year old brother and his friends... they are so 14. It's amusing. My parents also entertained us a little bit with their lame jokes-- no seriously. My mom tells jokes that she CRACKS UP at, because she thinks they are so funny, and half the time I'm only laughing at how hard she is laughing! It's hilarious! And my dad called me a wimp!

Katie: "Dad, guess what?! Devin took me climbing tonight. My arms are so sore!"
Dad: "well... that's because you're a wimp."
>cue Devin burst out in hysterical laughter and Katie's jaw dropping in disbelief<

yeah! I know! It was sorta funny. My dad's the best dad ever. Love that guy. Ok, it was really funny. He was only half serious... haha I hope!!

Anyway... I know this is all you ever hear, but Devin really is the best. I have never been this happy, and I am so lucky to have him in my life. He is my best friend! Every day, I love him more! Seeing Devin every single day for the past 2 months has been soreally great! He understands me in a way that I feel nobody ever has, and he has been such a huge support to me, and more help then I think he is aware of. He gives some amazing advice, and I learn from him, and his example every day.

Also... Kylee Marie Hillman is my other kind of best friend. I am also lucky to have her around, because I would probably not be nearly as sane and grounded as I am without her. Not only does she have exquisite playlist making abilities, and excellent taste in music... but she is also a really, really great friend. I am so glad that Ky and I can be honest with each other, and that we can tell each other literally anything without feeling judged. I lucked out with such a great friend. (L. $.)

Also... I cannot even believe it is Christmas Eve. This year definitely snuck up on me. 2010 went by SO fast, thank goodness, because it was not an easy year. I am so excited for these next few days, though! Devin and I have a busy schedule, making time for all the parties! I can't wait to spend Christmas with my family, and his. So many amazing people to spend this time with! All of them, of course, have been a huge blessing, too. My family will always be some of my very best friends. I love how close I am with my siblings, and I am so lucky to have friends in my parents. They have been amazing help to me. And Devin's parents as well, have been so gracious toward me. I feel so welcome and loved! They are some of the greatest people I have ever met, along with his siblings, and their families! I am so excited to spend Christmas with them! I can't get enough of them either. Whenever my plans with Devin include stopping at his parents, dropping off something at Amanda and Jason's, driving to Francis for some dinner with Brandon, or heading to Sean and Chloe's for all kinds of activities, I always get so excited! I love them all!

This is the life!!! Merry Christmas!

Also... I know a secret.

oh, the places we'll go...

Devin and I have created a monster.

A monster list that is. Of places we will  are going to go. Some day. See:

ALASKA

 BANDON BEACH, OREGON

HAVASU FALLS

PARIS, FRANCE

NEW ENGLAND

SEATTLE, WASHINGTON

YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK

oh, the places we'll go... :) I cannot wait!!!

Disclaimer: This list, now made permanent by publishment in a blog on the internet, is subject to grow, exponentially, but never to change. No items added to the list by Katie nor Devin can be removed once it has been added. The destinations on this list have no due date or expiration date, and each stop must be enjoyed to it's full potential by both parties involved (ie: Katie and Devin). Each destination may also include surrounding areas of interest, especially in the case of Paris, France-- surrounding areas including Italy, Greece, Switzerland, etc. The same principle is applied to all destinations on the list.  Some assembly required. p.s. Dev and I have been watching a lot of awesome movies lately. He let me watch Fantastic Mr. Fox! Even though he wasn't "in the mood" for it... and I'm pretty sure he thoroughly enjoyed it anyway... We watched Horton Hears a Who (which is one of my very favorites-- I had just forgotten!) And tonight, we watched Despicible Me! Why? Because my awesome boyfriend bought it :) He's the best. Love him! Oh, also, we watched The Town... don't tell... but it was AWESOME. Highly recommended... minus the language. Hmm... I think that's it! All great! And we both can't wait for True Grit to come out! Ooooh Jeff Bridges.

I find it hard...

To respect an authority figure who
     a) acts like a high school boy with a high school crush
     b) gets mad at me for doing what I was told to do (by HIM)
     c) takes more time to do his job, then I take to do his exact same job, and without his training and experience...

To be in a good mood when Devin is
     a) not feeling good, and has to work in the morning :(
     b) not with me after a long night of work

To find a reason to go to sleep at only 11:20 p.m. when
     a) I have absolutely no reason to wake up in the morning
     b) it's the night before Friday night! (which apparently means "party!" to the 18-25 year-old age group of downtown Provo)

To keep myself from tellin my mother about the awesome Christmas gift I happened upon today while shopping for what I had originally planned to be her Christmas gift, which I also got her, because I am the best daughter ever.

To fall back asleep after my Dad comes into my room at 7:30 in the morning, to remind me of things he would like me to do for him... Dad, I love you and all, but let's be honest. Anything you tell me before 9:00 a.m. is void and null. I am simply not conscious enough to understand your plea.

To suck it up, rub some dirt in it, and sell the dang thing.

To hold back the shivers, thanks to this FREEZING COLD HOUSE

To hold back a smile when I think about how lucky I am to have such a great boyfriend, who listens to me vent, and maybe even say a bad word or too, after a long night of work. And comes to visit me on that same long night of work, just because :)

To not post pictures of the cute surprises I made all my little girl niece/cousins for Christmas... I'm only afraid their mothers will see! And it is just as much of a surprise for the Moms as it is for the girls!

To put down To Kill A Mockingbird, even though I have read it a million gazillion trillion times. And seen the movie. Twice.

To abstain from shopping on Amazon each night (I have an enormous wishlist... it's almost embarrassing... but not quite.)

To play a song on the piano that has 5 flats -- (ahem, Clair de Lune!!!)

To find any reason why my life isn't the best life anybody could ever have. I have the most amazing people around me, the most amazing opportunities, and too many blessings to even begin to count.

(free)

The hard part of finals was over yesterday.
But in a literal sense, I finished today. I had to give a really simple presentation in my Student Success class, that's all.

Do you know what this means?

It means Katie is done with school.
Forever.
False. Not forever. Just until I start the dental assisting program in August.
That's sorta like forever, though.

Do you know what this means?

It means Katie has a lot of free time on her hands now.

Do you know what she's gonna do with all that free time?

  1. Get a membership at the Quarry, and simultaneously become a gym rat. (to win Dev's heart... oh wait ;)...)
  2. Learn Clair de Lune on the piano (it's rough! but beautiful. my favorite classical piece ever >> listen here.)
  3. Get a promotion at work come January (fingers crossed!)
  4. Be super productive on a much more regular basis.
  5. Read all the books that I own and never got around to reading (It's about time for another round of TKAMB anyway)
  6. Have an emaculate car. All the time. Because a clean car... is the best.
  7. Cook and bake a LOT. New recipes to try... lots of them...
  8. Pick up other new hobbies. (any ideas?!)
  9. Plan wedding parties for my engaged friends. (Namely ValPal)
  10. Be a better best friend to Mitchell Oldham (on his request, haha)
That, my friends, is a pretty decent list. And I can't wait to have all of this free time, which probably won't be very "free" with this list and all... regardless... I'm excited.

all a'glow

so you wanna know what song has been stuck in my head for the past couple days? it's kinda embarrassing...

So this is love, Mmmmmm
So this is love
So this is what makes life divine
I'm all aglow, Mmmmmm
And now I know
The key to all heaven is mine
My heart has wings, Mmmmmm
And I can fly
I'll touch ev'ry star in the sky
So this is the miracle that I've been dreaming of
Mmmmmm
Mmmmmm
So this is love

yes. it's from Cinderella. yes. I love disney movies.

all I have to say...
is that I have literally never been happier.
I have been happy. but not at this level. and not as genuine as this.
love being happy.

oh. also... Dev and I went up to SLC last night, and met up with yet another mission buddy, TJ and his expecting wife, Liz... it was SO much fun. They are so awesome! we also ran into one of Devin's converts -- she is amazing! I hope we can do something with her soon! It was such a great night -- then we got tiramisu at Gourmandise-- best bakery EVER. SUCH an amazing night. I am the luckiest.

blessings and birthdays

Yesterday was quite eventful!

First of all.. it was KYLEE MARIE HILLMAN'S BIRTHDAY!!! She's 20 now. I think that 19 to 20 is one of the biggest jumps... she automatically sounds WAY older. She's practically a grandma. Before we know it, she'll be like... 25!!! Eww! haha

So, my best friend duties involved planning her party. Which I did. And it was awesome.

Kylee had come with me to my Stress Management class earlier that day, and she inspired me with this genius idea to give everybody celebrity couple names:

Katie and Devin: Kevin/Kash
Shelly and Marshall: Shellshall/Marshelly
Valeri and Garrison: Valison/Garreri
Kaylee and Ryan: Pepper (it's a long story)
Kylee and Kaden: Hillmanalp/Abplanman (combined their last names (Hillman and Abplanalp) since you can't comibine 2 'K' names!)

Our group of friends (which is usually just girls, even though we are all married/engaged/dating someone) has started a tradition (starting with Tracey's bachelorette party in October) of going to Chili's and going Bowling at Miracle Bowl. So... that was the plan.

BUT... I didn't want to... and wasn't really willing to (haha) give up a night with Devin, and Kylee is dating a new guy, so I figured it would work out best if we made it a group date! Plus, I hadn't even met Kaylee's husband, or Shelly's boyfriend! So, it worked out really well for everyone!

TIME OUT: Earlier that day, I was sitting in math, getting ready for class to start, and my phone buzzed. It was a text message from Devin saying he was driving to Park City for work and a truck that lost control hit him and sent him into the median. I FREAKED out. I was such a mess, I was hyperventilating and crying in the middle of my math class! (so embarrassing) I must have asked Dev at least 20 times if he was okay, which he was. Thank goodness. His work truck is a little torn up, but Devin is safe. The second I got out of class, I was waiting in line to get Kylee and I some birthday jamba juice and I said a prayer-- I am so grateful that Devin wasn't hurt, and neither was the other driver. He is lucky to not have rolled either. What a blessing! He called me about an hour and a half after he sent me that text, and I think it was just so I could know he was for sure okay. (Thank goodness, or else I probably would've never calmed down! He must have known I was freaking out.)

TIME IN: We all had a lot of fun, but Devin isn't a fan of Chili's, and he was also feeling really sore from the impact of the crash. I felt bad for him all night, and I could tell he wasn't feeling good, but he was such a good sport and we had so much fun anyway!

the dinner group
L.
My bestie, Val. She's getting MARRIED.
We think we are funny. And we like to tell secrets.

The Couples:
Marshall and Shelly. Or Shellshall. Or Marshelly.
Kaylee and Ryan. Or Pepper.
Kaden and Kylee. Or Abplanman. Or Hillmanalp.

Val and Garrison. Or Valison. Or Garreri.
(best for last ;)...) Devin and I. or Kevin. or Kash.
At dinner, Devin and I, Kylee and Kaden, Shelly and Marshall, and Kaylee and Ryan were there, and then when we went bowling, Kaylee and Ryan left, and Valeri and Garrison came! It was so much fun! The waitress at Chili's said she would bring Kylee a chocolate shake, but the workers weren't allowed to sing anymore, because people kept faking birthdays for free dessert (I can't believe they are just barely figuring this out.. that's the oldest trick in the book!), but Ryan got her to start us off with a note! haha It was such a good night!

For her birthday, I got Kylee a red teapot, that she had been asking for, and some espresso mugs and saucers-- which I knew she would love. I'm pretty sure she liked her party! She seemed to! Right, Ky?! I don't host parties, but I think I did a pretty decent job!

It was a great day... well. That's actually not true. It was a scary morning, and a great night.

What a day to be alive
What a day to realize I'm not dead
What a day to save a dime
What a day to die trying
