i knew this was coming, i knew it! luckily, i've shared pretty much all of my embarrassing stories on here already, but i will recap, for the sake of today's "blog every day in may" challenge topic.
fainting / a few months after devin i were married, we were at the temple doing sealings (an ordinance we perform in the temple for people who have passed away. we act as proxy during the ordinance where the couple who has passed away is sealed (married for time and all eternity). so devin and i kneeling across the alter from each other and he keeps asking me if i'm okay. i remember getting so annoyed. i felt fine! why was he so worried?! it was pretty warm in the room and we had been kneeling a lot, but i seriously felt fine. after he asked about two or three times, i started to feel very light-headed. now, i don't know if you've passed out before or not, but i've passed out several times, and when you get light-headed like that, you really only have a few seconds to recover, or else you reach this point of no return. like, you can feel light headed and lay down or put your head between your knees or drink some water, but you really only have a few seconds before you get to a point where your peripheral vision starts going black and you know you're about to pass out. so, my headed started nodding and i was sort of swaying and i felt all the blood drain from my face and i started wiggling my feet and twisting my ankles, trying to fight it. i felt so tired, i looked at devin and he asked me again if i felt okay and i shook my head no and the next thing i know, i wake up and i'm being helped to the ground by devin, and there is a woman moving my legs out from under me so i could lay flat. he had run around the altar and caught me before i fell. it was pretty embarrassing! but after i got back to my seat everyone else in the room started sharing their temple fainting stories, and another lady had said she was glad it wasn't her that fainted, because she was sure she would, so i felt better about it. devin has fainted in the temple before, too, but he his his head! haha it was pretty funny. i'm glad everyone took it lightly, although i did have to argue about being taken out to the car in a wheelchair! haha
sleep talking / on our honeymoon, we had so much fun. devin had booked us this really nice, huge family suite at a hotel in st george and we spent so many hours watching grey's anatomy in bed, eating junk food. it was a blast. so one night, at about 3:00 a.m., (keep in mind, i don't remember any of this. because i was sleeping. this is just what devin tells me happened!) i say "doooon't fall asleep." and devin asks why. and i said, "just. don't fall asleep." and he asks me again why we shouldn't fall asleep and i said "because they're going to bring us dinner." and he told me that it was 3 in the morning and no one was going to bring us anything and i said "i don't know!" and rolled over. whaaaaat?? in my defense, though, devin, to this day, laughs in his sleep. regularly. it's not like a creepy laugh, it's just that he must be having a funny dream! i think it's funny.
tripping / in college, at the ripe old age of 18, i was walking back to my apartment with my roommates after playing sand volleyball with some other friends, and i tripped on the sidewalk over absolutely nothing and BROKE my foot. aversion fracture. it was a little scary, because i was totally alone. i had to email and call my mom a bunch to figure out insurance stuff and which hospital to go to, so i spent at least a day without seeing a doctor. i had borrowed some crutches from someone, and the side of my foot looked like a tennis ball. once i saw the doctor, he put me in a boot and probably gave me some medication. the x-rays looked so cool! i wish i could have kept them. anyway, i remember having to leave the news room (i was an editor for the newspaper and i was in the middle of editing my page for the next day's paper) because i had to go to my doctor's appointment and the adviser was so rude about it! she didn't take me seriously and was so mad that i was leaving, and when i came back about 2 hours later in a boot she said, "oh, your foot really is broken" ... uh, yeah it is, jerk! i was so upset! but seriously. i BROKE A BONE. TRIPPING. over NOTHING. true katie fashion right there.
babysitting / this is the story i tell most often when i'm asked to share my most embarrassing moment, because it's the best one. so it's my sophomore year of high school, i think, and my friend asked me to help her babysit. long story short: these kids were insane. there were 3 of them and they were just the worst. anyway, the 2 young boys open the garage door and run away. in different directions, so my friend and i split up, each going after one boy. so i'm chasing this kid down this busy street and he's maybe 100 feet in front of me when i dark car pulls up next to him and the person in the car has the window rolled down and is talking to this kid. who i don't know, and am just babysitting. so i run up to the boy and grab him and pull him away from the car and i've got this crazy person adrenaline right now. i probably could have lifted a car, and i stick my head in the window of this car and say in my meanest 15-year-old-girl voice, "DO YOU KNOW HIM??" i was ready for war, here! and the man looks at me really confused and says, "uh... he's my son."
....... we'll just stop the story there. SOOO embarrassing.
