Impulse Stop

it didn't take long for both of us to make the realization that on this drive, we would by default be traveling right through Alpine, Wyoming.

as in, Grey's River.

as in, our favorite place on the face of this Earth. the place both of our families have been camping and fishing at for 20+ years.

as in, the biggest coincidence in the history of coincidences.

so we had to stop.

and it was wet and muddy and rainy and green and beautiful.

and we were beaming.

Anniversary Weekend

Photobucket

these were basically my only hint, really, about where we were going. i was totally clueless. cowboy boots? what could that possibly mean? a lot of things. that was the problem. i seriously had no idea.

morning-of:
devin told me to pack warm. that the weather report was showing rain, so shorts would be pointless. i was okay with that. he also made sure i brought shoes and clothes that were grungy. hmmm....

after we packed, he took me to breakfast at our favorite sandwich shop, Ernie's.

from there, we got in the car, I got blindfolded, and 2 turns out of the parking lot, I had lost all sense of direction. Devin asked me a few times if I had any idea where we were, and the truth was, I definitely didn't. At first, I had thought maybe we had gone down the Provo Canyon, but he kept stopping and making turns, which you don't do in the Canyon. I was also waiting for what would have been a dead giveaway for driving through Provo Canyon: the tunnel. But we drove for over an hour, me blindfolded, and to my knowledge, never went through a tunnel. (turns out, we were in the canyon the whole time! he stopped for construction, turned into parks a few times, and i guess i was just too distracted to notice the tunnel!)

Devin did a fantastic job of disorienting me. I didn't even know what direction we were traveling in. So after an hour, he said I could take the blindfold off. I opened my eyes to bright blue skies and red rock. My first guess was that we were headed south. St. George? Vegas? California? Nope. Shortly after, we passed a sign that had some Wyoming town names, but I was still confused. Maybe I was just still getting used to not being blindfolded. I finally guess: "Jackson?" I was right!

Devin took me to Jackson, Wyoming!

we did encounter a few minor setbacks on the drive... like snow (what?) and we maybe got pulled over a little bit... but it's okay. we blame the mazda. it's so zippy and smooth, you can hardly tell you're going 79 in a 65. just kidding. we actually blame Jeff Foxworthy.

*Instead of posting one huge, long post, I decided to break it up. Partly to save us all from one big post, but also because it will be awhile before anything interesting comes up again, post-vacation to blog about, since we'll spend awhile getting back into the swing of things.

It is your birthday.

Photobucket
devin turned 25 last week.
i had a few plans up my sleeve.

first of all: he had the day off. i didn't.
but i took care of him.
i had a little present for him to open for every hour while i was gone.
mostly candy. his favorites, of course.
some other cool things that i knew he wanted.
one of the presents was meeting me for lunch at Purple Turtle.

and then i surprised him by coming home with him after lunch.
i had worked overtime earlier that week so i could get off early to be with him.

i got his wedding ring engraved with something that means a lot to us.
and we met up with some of our favorite people
at our favorite restaurant
2 hours past normal dinner time
and had a fantastic meal and a great evening.

my sweet little sister even loaded devin up with all the best goodies from her work!

and then we woke up and went on vacation.

boo-ya.
