to let time pass

it's not often that I have a lot to say, but when the house is empty and quiet, my thoughts really can't help themselves. and as nice as watching endless episodes of Friends is... it's just not cutting it tonight.

there is a lot going on right now. in life, in my mind. it feels like it's not something I'll ever catch up to. not necessarily in a bad way. it just sort of seems like we're in limbo. past events are well over: we've been married for a year, we have a nice place and steady jobs. no recent climatic things we're still catching our breath from. and then there's now: sort of a broken record kind of phase. mostly because there is so much going on in the near and distance future: buying a house, getting a dog, getting careers, having kids... it's a lot to look forward to, and i can't wait.

but it stresses me out! i feel like I'm getting impatient for things, even when I know that now is not the time. when i can feel that it's not time yet for those things. as much as i covet homeowners and dog owners and happily employed career women and mothers... it's just not time! but I still feel this sense of urgency to reach that point? is this just me? I'm going nuts! i feel like it's not happening as fast as it should, maybe. but i also know and feel like we're progressing just like we should. it's a lot to handle all at once, especially when I'm thinking about these things all the time. i wish i could just have it explained to me sometimes.

i feel like I'm at this spot in a book where I want so badly to ask someone who knows how it ends to tell me, so I can feel better, and stop feeling anxious - but I don't want to ruin the rest of the story. i don't want to spoil the ending. i like being surprised. it's harder than i thought, though. to wait. to let time pass. to save money. to advance in our schooling and jobs. to have a clearer idea of where we are, where we are going and where we want to end up. more answers, less wondering.

a little love note

Devin,

Thank you for being such an incredible husband - this week and always. But this week especially. You have been so incredibly sweet for absolutely no reason at all, and it has made me feel so loved.

Thank you for making me lunch when I came home for my break yesterday and today. You are a pro sandwich maker.

Thank you for cooking an amazing dinner last night - you are also pro at that.

Thank you for being so excited and supportive on Tuesday when I red-pointed my first 10a on my second burn ever. I couldn't have done it without you! Thank you for pushing me just enough in my climbing - we both know I've gotten so much better with your help! Thank you for constantly belaying me, and shouting encouragement (and beta, haha) when I'm struggling and tired. Thank you for including me in something you are so passionate about.

Thank you for taking me out for ice cream, and choosing to take it home to eat in bed while we watch Modern Family - exactly how I like it.

And thank you for taking the time on your morning off to clean my giant mess in the kitchen, and the rest of the house, for that matter.

You are amazing. I am so lucky to have you, and I love being your wife - you make it easy.

Love, Katie

More Joe's!

remember how I just recently (not very recently anymore, but still) got my hands on our new camera to upload all the photos on it? in that process, I also uploaded some from Devin's iPhone - and found these gems from our climbing weekend in Joe's! climbing pictures of katie? what?! I obviously need to work on looking less like a weirdo, and more like a rock climbing. don't worry. i'm getting better. i really miss Joe's. we had such a fun time hanging out underneath giant, awesome boulders with great friends, and tasty junk food, and I really want to go back. Joe's is basically a canyon that is exclusively climbers. everyone sleeps in a van and spends all daylight hours bouldering. it's awesome.

date night

last week, after devin discovered that he had to close the gym on monday (which means he doesn't get home until after 11 p.m.) and that he was going to the Greg Laswell concert on tuesday (which meant he wouldn't be home until midnight), he declared Friday, Date Night. And he let me pick.

I'm horrible at deciding what to do. Mostly because I don't care. I can have a good time anywhere, as long as i'm with that guy, so I'm not very picky. But that usually bothers him. Because sometimes, he wants me to choose. So I decided that all I really wanted to do was relax outside. I had worked a really long week full of 10+ hour days, and just wanted to take it easy, so we went golfing.

Which for us, usually means, that Devin golfs, and I drive the cart. I did make a goal to actually golf more often this summer, but date night was not that night.

After a really fast 9 holes, we headed to Slab for dinner. Ever since I discovered their Spinach pizza, I can't get enough of that place. They know how to make pizza, and they know how to keep it simple. Two of my favorite things.

Next, we headed to Devin's parents (not part of the original plan), but we had some plans to work out with his parents, and they just got a brand new car, a Toyota Venza. We took a ride and heard about all the bells and whistles (that care has all of them), and then continued our date. Next stop: coldstone.

I made a poor choice and put heath bar in my oreo cream filling ice cream. The two didn't go together well at all, but the kit-kat made up for it, and we ate it in bed and watched modern family and fell asleep before 10. At least I did.

Thanks for taking me on a date, love!

my week via iPhone

this week was actually really busy, and i didn't get very many photos, but we had a great time. and you won't be disappointed, because there is a hilarious video of Addison. (surprise, surprise. i'm sure i have more pictures of her than or me and Dev!)

< ashby sisters who i love so much
> several of my lunches this week consisted of strawberries and watermelon

Photobucket Photobucket
< for girl's night on tuesday, amanda made these yummy smoothies!
> started To Kill a Mockingbird again. favorite book of all time.

Photobucket Photobucket
< we went to mcdonald's and they gave us our 2 orders of fries and asked us to pull up and wait for our burgers. when they brought out our burgers, we had 2 more orders of fries in there! SCORE!
> peach season

Photobucket Photobucket
>< golf date at Cascade. Devin golfed, and I drove the cart. I just wanted to be outside and work on getting some color back in my skin!

Photobucket
< we came to riley and koda's rescue! brandon's been in new england with amy for the past while, and his roommate Tom was leaving so the dogs needed to be watched. devin's parents and the wagstaff's were out of town for the weekend, and we can't have dogs at our place, so we spent saturday night at devin's parents' house dog-sitting. they are such good dogs, so it was a breeze!

reason #457 why my niece is the cutest. she loves to sing and dance. she knows how to count to 10 at just 2 years old, and loves looking at herself in the mirror (or in the case, the camera screen), and she has the cutest little voice - so high-pitched. I love when she goes "ten!' hahaha and how she sings "Addi was a snowman" - and gets louder and louder as she sings "melted, MELTED" -  she cracks me up! At the end, she's saying "Addi wants to go see CHLOE!" (we were waiting for chloe to come over and she was so excited!)

Tibble Fork

the weekend before our anniversary trip, we headed up American Fork canyon to Tibble Fork for a Sunday afternoon. it was hot, and in comparison to the other families around, we came ill-equiped with just our blanket. there was fishing, barbecuing, canoeing, and more cute dogs then I could have counted! we decided to buy an annual pass for the local parks so we won't have to pay for any day passes when we go into these local recreational areas, and want to make good use of it - needless to say, this sunday afternoon trip has inspired several ideas to make sure we get our money's worth!
