today has been one for the books.
probably not anybody else's book, but it's just been one of those days where i felt like a newlywed.
we slept in, and watched some Netflix, and then got up and I made a huge breakfast: waffles, muffins, bacon, fruit... it was delicious! devin and i both piled our waffles with peanut butter, powdered sugar, strawberries, and real maple syrup (thanks to Michelle in NH!). Delicious.
after breakfast, Devin offered to clean up (love.) and then we got ready for church.
we lasted through sacrament meeting. barely.
we're usually pretty good about going to all 3 meetings, but we were surrounded by noisy families with obnoxious children. all of the kids in front of us had coloring books, children's books and fruit snacks... and even the parents were coloring! it was more then we could handle.
devin wasn't feeling good anyway, so we decided we'd better just leave.
plus, it was one of those sundays when the speakers are high council members.
it's been one of those days.
we decided to go to Dev's parents house, and we got to see the family pictures we had taken a little over a month ago. Chloe's twin, Maddie took them for us. They turned out awesome! i love the colors, and we all look pretty great! the Ashby family is a dang good looking one!
hopefully, i'll get my hands on my own copy of the photos soon and i'll post them all asap.
after that, we stopped at Wagstaff's to pick up the other half of our wedding cake. they're all on a memorial ride for Jason's brother, Matt. It's a really cool story-- read here.
we went home and did some picture hanging until we were hungry enough for dinner.
we bought a small charcoal grill on our honeymoon and have been anxious to try it out.
it took forever to get it lit, and then it wouldn't stay lit.
after awhile, we gave up and finished cooking the meet on the George Foreman grill. yes. we have one.
but that's not before we stunk up the whole house like bacon and charcoal!
also-- devin had used a glass pyrex bowl to hold some charcoal while he re-did the grill, to try again. he brought the bowl in with a hotpad and put it in the sink.
i was totally oblivious to what would happen, and instinctively turned the faucet on to clean the bowl... didn't even register to me that it would be hot.
right as devin starts saying "don't turn the water on---" i did. and the glass bowl SHATTERED in the sink.
we were a little upset. the burgers weren't working. our sink was full of glass... but we just laughed. it's part of being married. it's just one of those things.
and now that i think of it, it actually is pretty funny anyway.
the food turned out great, the burgers were good, and we had salad and chips and fruit.
we talked about how we've noticed how much healthier we've been since we've been married. we've both really enjoyed cooking, especially together, and we tend to eat out way, way less, and when you're cooking and using fresh food, and produce... you're eating way healthier. we also noticed that we've been eating candy and desserts less too. we just don't have the appetite for them as much as we used to.
that's a good thing!
after dinner, we went to visit an awesome couple that lived in Manchester while Devin served there. They moved out here so Diana, the wife could get her master's in psychology at BYU.
I was so glad to meet them, and I hope Devin and I spend a lot of time with them while they're here for the next couple years!
on our way home from the Fontaine's, a blog-worthy moment occurred.
we're driving up state street, back home, and i heard this noisy truck pulling up next to us. so naturally, i look over to see what all the noise was. it was some hillbilly-looking man in his big jacked up ford.
apparently, that quick glance... set him off. i didn't even have an expression on my face. i was having a conversation with devin. it was just to see what the noise was!
so of course, the guy speeds up, making more noise, being an idiot.
next, cuts us off.
next, blows tons of exhaust on us. (gross)
next, he gets in the turning lane, and we drive past and he flips us off?!
i'm sorry... did we DO something?
i'm sorry you were so obnoxious that i couldn't help but look...?
some people.
it's mostly just hilarious.
anyway, like i said: it's been one of those days.
now, devin is playing james bond. and watching video games bores me. hopefully he'll let me turn on some more grey's anatomy soon. we're on season 3 already-- crazy? a little bit.
