10 things (for Devin)

I love love. Just like every other girl in the world... yeah it gets me. I'm a bit of a hopeless romantic at times, and I am almost always super cheesy... and all of you already know that I love Devin very much...

But once a year, the Nation... the whole nation sees fit that we celebrate love.

As you can expect... I've got some problems with this.

Disclaimer: I am not completely opposed to Valentine's Day. It's great, it's fun, it's a good excuse to be treated nice... (also, Dev-- don't take any of this personally. Not about you. About the world. I love you :)...)

BUT

Who's idea was this? No seriously... Who decided that we needed a NATIONAL HOLIDAY to remind people that we love them? Shouldn't we be doing that every single day?

I just mostly feel bad. Valentine's Day makes single people feel inadequate, lonely, and horrible about themselves. They definitely don't deserve that.

It also makes guys feel OBLIGATED to treat girls especially well, I think. I won't complain about that, but I don't want to be taken out because my boyfriend feels OBLIGATED to because it's what you're supposed to do on Valentine's day. He should take me out and treat me especially well because he wants to and because he loves me. Which is perfectly fine if he wants to, and feels like he especially loves me on Valentine's Day. But I don't want it to happen strictly because of the holiday itself. (I know Devin would never do that anyway...) And I hope every girl in America feels the same way.

I guess my opinion about this whole thing is kind of hard to explain. But another thing:

I understand the whole flowers, chocolates, teddy bears... whatever. I'm not a huge flowers girl. They are awesome. I love them. Every once in awhile -- perfect! Valentine's Day -- great! But it doesn't matter to me on a regular basis. The chocolates and teddy bears and endless, tacky gifts -- are going too far, though.

I just don't agree with a Holiday that forces people into doing and acting in a certain way, especially one that is not based off of any sort of tradition. It's an individual thing. We don't even celebrate it as a nation! We celebrate it as couples!

But it's awesome that we recognize love, and that we celebrate it -- I just feel like it shouldn't have a designated day. It should be happening way more often than once a year that we remind each other how much we love and appreciate each other.

I guess my main point... is that it's a really LAME excuse for a National Holiday. That's all. Cool, go be in love, all on the same day, once a year... and then go back to your regular lives. Augh. It just doesn't really make sense to me, I guess. Enlighten me?

HOWEVER

In honor of this, the most pointless National Holiday in American history... I give you...

10 Things I Love About DEVIN:

if you're not Devin, and you're sick of hearing about how great he is: stop reading now.

Because I'm about to elaborate.

1. You are so humble. I have never met anybody that is as humble as you are. You are so good at what you do-- at ALL you do! But you still always make sure to give credit where credit is due, and you are so grateful and appreciative when I give you compliments about whatever you are doing. You know your place in the world, in that The Lord is a huge part of your life, and the reason you are here, and you never forget that. It is so impressive.
www.capturedbydash.com yeah.... I stole some pictures...

2. You are so simple. Absolutely nothing is complicated with you. I never have to wonder. I never have to ask questions. You keep things simple in our relationship: there are no secrets, there is nothing to hide, there is no lying - and that is something that I really respect. But you also keep things simple in your every day life. You are a minimalist. You are so clean and organized, to the point that I even make fun of you for it sometimes, haha! You just make life easy.

oh this explains it all! taking a nap on the floor because you just made your bed and didn't want to mess it up! hahaha oooh i love you. what a prime example!
don't know why I chose this for "simple"... probably because this is such a typical Devin face!

3. You laugh at my jokes. Sure, maybe I'm funny sometimes, but even when I'm not, you pretend that I am, just because you know it will make me feel better! You are my best friend! I love that we tease each other and joke around all the time. You can always make me laugh!
you crack me up!
haha i hate and love this picture at the same time
i love this.

4. You know who you are. You never act differently, no matter who is around. You don't lower or alter your standards in any way for anybody, and that is something that I really appreciate and respect about you. You love life, you love everything about it, and you never forget who you are. You are always so willing to stand up for what you believe in, and this characteristic is what I think has brought you so many amazing, close friends. Your confidence is magnetic, and everyone wants to be around you!
loved this night. loved being at temple square with you. what a feeling!

5. You are so handsome. Enough said. haha, really though. Seeing you smile at me makes my day! I live for that smile :)
yeah... you're hot stuff, babe.

that smile... will be the death of me! :) i love it.

6. You are so selfless. Not once have I ever seen you even slightly unwilling to help somebody else out. My favorite example so far of your selflessness is after my Dad got surgery on his foot, and you insisted that we shovel the driveway for him in the freezing cold! I was pretty relectant about it, but your attitude about service completely changed the way I was thinking, and I was immediately humbled. I look up to you so much in this way. You are so compassionate, and so willing to help anybody who needs it.

making the decision to sacrifice 2 years of your life and serve the Lord is one of the most selfless things I think a person can ever do. I didn't even know you then, but thank you so much for choosing to serve, Dev. It means the world to me.

7. You are so talented. I say this to you ALL THE TIME, but Devin. Seriously. THE MOST TALENTED photographer in the valley. In the state. In the world. By far. I have always been so, so impressed with your work. Even before I met you. But now that I know all the effort you put into your business, and how important it is to you, I appreciate it even more. You are an amazing photographer, with natural talent, that I think comes from your love for it! Also... kick butt rock climber. Not gonna lie, Dev, it's pretty attractive to watch you flash a 12B after 9 months of not climbing! You work so hard to be at the level you are on with the things you enjoy doing, and I can promise you: your hard work is most definitely paying off! You are good at what you do. All of it.
http://www.capturedbydash.com/ one of my very favorites.

i love this picture SO much.

8. You are so smart. I know school can be stressful, and you can feel overwhelmed at times, but I also know that you are totally and completely MORE than capable of coming out on top. I've edited your papers, and I've been there when you do your homework! You are SO smart! You are a great writer, you are a great presenter, and power-point maker... I am convinced that there is NOTHING you can't do!
your genius-ness also extends for your exceptional taste in music. First concert we ever went to -- maybe a week of dating? LOVE IT! we look horrible... haha

9. You are such a hard worker. Every single thing you do, is done 110%. Always. When you do something, you do it all the way, and you give it your all. You do your absolute best, no matter what it is, and it shows! You exhaust yourself each day, making customers at work happy, pleasing your professors, helping your family, and giving me something to smile about! I am impressed every day by the work you do, and the things you accomplish.
Serving the Lord... even in a Nor Easter!
10. You love me back! I know I am hard to handle at times. I am insecure, and emotional, and have a lot to talk about, and a lot to complain about, and after a long day, the last thing you probably want to hear is my weird stories about the awful day at work, or the drama that comes up -- but you do it anyway. You listen to me, and you give me advice, and you love me unconditionally, and I know that you do! I have never been so sure! You take me for who I am, you see the flaws, and the inconveniences, and you love me anyway, and that is huge to me. I feel so accepted and welcome and comfortable and cared for, and I truly couldn't ask for more!
 i looooooove you!
no, YOURE the best!

These are only 10 reasons, too! Man, I'm cheesy! But at least I warned you! :) This list could have been much, much longer.

But really, Devin. You are an amazing example to me. You make me want to be a better version of myself -- something I strive to become every single day. I am so uplifted around you, and you bring out the very best in me. I love you so much, Devin! Thank you so, so much for everything that you do every single day for me! You are a huge blessing in my life, and I couldn't be more grateful for the opportunity that I have been given to have you here :)
