are we going to have refreshments, or what?

my sister in law threw a water-themed birthday party for Makayla's 9th birthday today, and I went over to help out.

There were pools and sprinklers and slip-n-slides. It was kid summer heaven.

The kids were having a good time, making up games, getting soaked, and one little girl came, and the first thing she said was, "um, what activities are there?"

Amanda explained that we're just playing in the water until everyone gets here and then there will be some games.

10 minutes later... the same little girls says, "are we going to have refreshments, or what?"

whoa. that took us both off guard. nice word choice, sweetie. and yeah, we have some popcicles... for later.

apparently, anything less than a giant production just wouldn't do. she ended up calling her mom and going home!

this is so ironic to me. i feel like when i was little, that would have totally satisfied. and i'm not saying anything about any parenting styles, because i'm really not in a place to judge... but it just seems like kids these days are more high maintenance? they need the newest and the best. they need to constantly be entertained.

it's just weird to me how time changes things. how the world around us completely affects the children. it amazes me!

i don't blame the parents at all. i blame the media. this makes me scared to have kids in this world.
