we finished our projects!
devin's more-so than mine. on saturday, he spent his afternoon with his rockstar of a friend, Jason, who had all the tools they needed. and they built this AMAZING leaning bookshelf.
devin has decided he wants to expand his collection of cameras, and wanted a cool way to display them. we've been seeing these bookshelves around lately, and really like them. they all coast anywhere between $100-$300... WAY too much! so D decided he just wanted to build one.
he drew it up, and did all kinds of research, we bought all the supplies and lumber, and he did it! i am seriously so proud. it is amazing! it looks exactly like something you'd buy in a store. i told them he should sell them. he definitely could.
he brought it home and we painted it right away, 2 coats of black paint, to match the rest of our furniture. we decorated it with the stuff we have, and put it in the entry, where we had a different bookshelf (which has found a new home).
seriously though. i had no idea devin was so good at building things! since this shelf has an a-frame, i thought the angles would be too hard to figure out. i definitely would have given up, but he nailed it. i'm a proud wife.
my project was a lot less difficult. our bedroom is the only room in our house that we haven't really decorated. there are some pictures hanging on the walls in some awkward places that were just too bare to leave blank, and we've been planning on framing a photo devin took for the yellow wall (one of the walls in our room is painted light yellow), but we haven't gotten around to it, because it will need to be custom framed.
this was my attempt to add a little more to our bare walls! i've been wanting to buy this sign for awhile, just because i feel like it really describes devin and i. we are adventurers! i thought it would be awesome to make my own. i thought about vinyl letters. i almost did it on some scrap mdf board (dodged that 200000000 lb bullet!) but then devin's bookshelf idea allowed me to use some scrap pine left over from the bookshelf, and he also had the idea to buy some graphite paper and just trace the letters on after i print them out the size i want. which happened.
i don't know if i'm completely done yet. the white on yellow is a little too light, and might not show up enough, so i may accent the letters with some black paint. we'll see. and i'll also have to update when we hang it on the wall! but i'm pretty happy about how it turned out!
