that one time Devin proposed to me...

i woke up sick, so he held me and sang "soft kitty" to make me laugh.

he very quietly got ready and left to run errands, letting me sleep in.

he came home with ernie's for lunch.

he framed the photo for our room, that we've been waiting on for months and months.

we're going to our very favorite restaurant tonight with Brandon and Amy, too.

and best of all, one year ago today, he realized he loved me enough to want to spend the rest of his life with me, and asked me to be his wife.

it's about noon now. a year ago today, i was planning wedding things. we knew we were getting married, but i didn't know when devin would officially ask. i didn't mind. i was making plans with kylee to do some crafty wedding errands and eventually we made our way to pebble in my pocket.

we  (read: just kylee) were making di-cuts to put together this:

i had been texting devin most of the morning/afternoon, as usual, and he had suggested we do some experimenting with the vintage polaroid he had just got in the mail from ebay. "Sure," i said.

not long after, did I get a call from work saying I would need to come in tonight. It happens sometimes. I wasn't in the mood to work at all, but what was I gonna do about it? I let Devin know, and he got suspiciously upset. At this point, I was brushing off any thought of a proposal, as to not disappoint myself.

After that strange exchange with Devin, a few minutes went by, and I was rushing home to get ready for work on time when I got yet another phone call. Looks like somebody else was going to work instead. Sweet. I let Devin know immediate and I'm pretty sure his exact response was "Oh, nice. So, when can I come get ya? :)"

He wanted to come soon, so I got ready quickly, taking extra notice to wear something I knew he liked. It wasn't long before he was knocking on the door.

He had said we'd go to dinner to, and we started heading toward the Riverwoods, so I thought we'd be eating there, and then I realized he was heading up the canyon.

"where are we going?" i asked.

"to south fork. to take pictures with the polaroid."

something in my stomach did a little flip. south fork has always been our go-to place for long talks and quiet drives, and it had come to mean something to us. but again, i shook my head at myself and said stop it, katie.

we get to south fork, and it's weirdly crowded with boy scouts, I think. probably doing some winter campout. we got out and tried to take pictures anyway. i was not wearing shoes conducive to the snowy ground, so I was struggling. devin tried a few, but it was getting too dark, so we got in the car. To leave, I thought.

Instead of turning back down the canyon, Devin turned right while asking if I had ever been up there before.

Yes, I think... why?

We proceeded to the gate of Trefoil Ranch (I don't think he was expecting it to be closed) and I got out of the car and began putting my coat back on and looking at the scenery. Meanwhile, Devin was headed back to the trunk. I thought we was getting something for the camera out, or maybe a warmer coat, when he said "I've got something for you..."

for me??

as I walked over to him, he pulled out a shoe box... CHACOS!!! I was beyond ecstatic. Which might sound silly. It's just a pair of sandals, Katie, get over it. Right? Well, yes. Probably. But I had been wanting some for so long, and he got me some for no reason!

I didn't even notice the tiny little box next to the shoes while I was hurrying to examine them in the dark. I hardly noticed when Devin grabbed the little box, opened it, took something out, and threw the box back in the trunk without even looking.

I have no idea what happened with the shoe box, or the shoes, because all of the sudden, Devin was on one knee in front of me with the sweetest smile I had ever seen on his face, holding a ring up to me (that was definitely not even noticing.)

"Will you marry me?"

"YES!!!"

I am almost positive we hugged and twirled and kissed for at least 10 minutes. Absolutely not exaggeration there.

It was dark and I couldn't see the ring until we got in the car and when we did, I turned on the dome light and said a million times over how much i love him, loved the ring, how perfect it was, how happy I was, and probably most of all, "we're engaged! we're engaged!!"

We headed to dinner, planning on Olive Garden, but being disappointed with their waiting time, so we went to Zuppa's and ran into Cameron and Crystal (who are now married!) and then off to various houses to tell everyone.

Devin took this picture while we were waiting at Olive Garden, and I think he posted it on facebook or something. We had sent out mass texts and were having a good time getting all the responses. That was before we realized we were too hungry to wait, and left for Zuppa's.

We headed to Sean and Chloe's (sean wasn't home though) and she had the good sense to get some pictures for us. Thanks, Chloe!

I really don't like most of these pictures, but I can't not like them. it was a big day!

One of the happiest nights of my life. I still admire my ring daily, and catch myself staring at it, which if people see me doing so, probably think I'm pretty conceited. That's okay. It's beautiful. I can't believe he loved me enough to want to love me FOREVER! and better yet? he still does.

he loves me enough to love me forever.

do sick days get much better??
